SAN MATEO TO HOLD GAY TOWN HALL MEETING

Youth support, equality, visibility and culture will be the topics of
discussion at the first-ever San Mateo Area Lesbian/Bi/Gay Town Hall Meeting,
to take place on Saturday, August 6, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Hillsdale United
Methodist Church of San Mateo (corner of 36th Ave. & Hacienda St.).

According to Town Hall Committee chairman Robert Greeley, the meeting will
strive to match the tremendous success attained by the Committee's June meeting
in Palo Alto, which attracted an overflow crowd and generated a flood of local
activism.

"Our last meeting proved that people on the Peninsula care deeply about
supporting lesbian/bi/gay/questioning youth, pursuing domestic partners and
nondiscrimination in our businesses and governments, and creating a vibrant,
visible culture in our local communities," Greeley said. "We know the San
Mateo area will be just as responsive to our call to advocacy."

Co-sponsored by Peninsula P-FLAG -- Parents, Family & Friends of Lesbians and
Gays -- the meeting is aimed at people living in the area of Daly City to
Redwood City, but open to anyone who wishes to come. Anyone with questions may
contact the Committee at 415-328-9570.

TOWN HALL MEETING
for Lesbians, Gays & Bi's of the Upper Peninsula

An open-forum discussion of gay/bi/lesbian life in our communities, from Daly
City to Redwood City, and how we may achieve full equality and integration into
civic culture. Topics to be discussed include:

YOUTH SUPPORT

* What's being done in high schools to make life bearable for
gay/bi/lesbian/questioning youth?
* How can we provide more safe spaces & support groups for youth, who urgently
need them?

LEGAL EQUALITY / DOMESTIC PARTNERSHIP

* What are governments and businesses doing to support equal rights & equal
access for us?
* How can we advance our non-discrimination and domestic partnership goals?

POSITIVE VISIBILITY

* Are our activities and support groups accessible to youth and to those just
coming out?
* What can we do to improve understanding / build rapport with heterosexuals in
our area?

CULTURAL OFFERINGS

* Why should it be necessary to go to SF to enjoy gay poetry readings, music or
cafes?
* Could we not have a thriving culture here on the Peninsula for ALL residents
to enjoy?

Everyone is welcome to attend and take an active role!
