loss of large packets between nsw.gw.au and act.gw.au

It seems that large packets are getting lost between nsw.gw and act.gw

I dont expect large packets to be as fast or as reliable as smaller packets
but is a 50-75% loss on packets of 500 bytes reasonable ?

What is the maximum packet size for the sydney canberra link ?
Equally what is the optimal packet size ? ( the maximum ? )

thanks

Yes, I know ... small packets (100 bytes) have about 85-90% succes rate.

No it is totally unacceptable (and so is 85-90% for small packets).

This is a known problem that was first reported yesterday. The problem
appears to be the high speed modems that terminates the Canberra end of
2Mb link to Sydney, for which a replacement is expected tomorrow some time
after 9:30 ...

1500 bytes.

Normally 1500 bytes. Right now, much less (unfortunately).

The lick between Sydney and Canberra is currently being
services by a faulty modem. The modem will be replaced today.

The problems with the link from Canberra to Sydney appear to have been
resolved. The Scitec modem that was suspected as faulty has been
replaced, the Scitec modem that was orginally on the Melbourne link had
been returned to the Melbourne link, and the new modem is driving the
line to Sydney.

Let's hope that this is the end of it.
