My SO and I are considering buying a used Toyota 4Runner, but have a
question concerning bike racks.

This vehicle, which *does* seem to have a lot of nice features, has a
'Rain Gutters = NULL' design. The dealer-installed roof racks screw
into the roof; the accessory pieces for attaching bikes seem pretty
kludgey. (This particular machine has no racks, though.)

Does anyone have any experience with racks made for no-rain-gutter
construction? (We'll be carrying two mountain bikes now, but there's
also a mountain tandem in the future.)

All advice welcome, and I'll summarize if there's interest; thanks!
