Second, > >You do not have to pay back the deficit, you have to pay back >the debt. Very simple really. Yes, very simple when you think of the debt in simple terms. Would you care to explain to me when we will pay back the debt ? You know, I think there's some P51s from WWII that still have to be paid for. Remember, the dollar is only a method of "keeping score". We would be in a heap of trouble if we didn't have the resources to back some of the irresponsibilities that have occurred over the last 50 years. I'm in the line of thinking that its not necessarily the amount of spending, but the fact that such a high percentage of the spending evaporates into waste. > Yabba> "skyrocket" is a little strong and alot of bias. So let > Yabba> me play with the numbers: From '87 to '89, the last 3 of the > Yabba> 7 fat years, the DEBT % GDP grew only slightly from 53% to > Yabba> 55.9%. From '90 to '92 however, the increase was more > Yabba> dramatic from 58.7% to 69.5%. Both the DEBT % GDP and > Yabba> DEFICIT % GDP jumped significantly after the Dem-Bush deal > Yabba> of '90, bringing the Reagan-Volker boom to an end. > >What was it in 1981? > Shall we continue this numbers game ? In '81 it was at its lowest % since WWII. I guess this must indicate we had a great economy then, and that stagflation of the '70s never occurred. And I guess the economy must have been pretty bad between '45 and '63, since the DEBT % GDP was higher than any time in the eighties. Yabba
