Hard to believe your a System Programmer with that kind of logic.
The Eastern European people had enough of Communism for some 30
years, but were against too powerful central structure to do anything about
it (review your Chech history).  The Soviets couldn't keep up with the massive 
80s buildup, especially with an economy that had been on the skids for years.  
SDI influenced Russian policy changes and brought Gorby to the table sooner.  
I'm sorry you missed the numerous Soviet Generals that attested to this very 
fact.  Or maybe you read these same reports and are to biased and partisan 
to admit it.
