In article <4dncvg$5g8@sue.cc.uregina.ca>, Mike Hebert <hebert@cs.uregina.ca> writes: > There must be some sort of neuro-chemical reason why men have always been > more interested in technology than women. There are, today, many > hunter-gatherer cultures in which only the men use their most modern > technologies (ie - hunting weapons). One can then speculate that men have > always been more apt to the use of new technologies than women. > Current archaeological theory tends to lean toward the interpretation that it was women who first invented and used domesticated plants, agricultural tools, pottery, and so forth. They did it to compensate for the fact that, although they spent a lot of time and energy trying to do it, men were failing to bring home enough bacon. There were kids to feed, and they needed food. I wouldn't be surprised if was women who also built the first shelters. Men were probably happy with caves or just a warm spot by the campfire. The same general principle may apply to the Internet. Sure, men use it more (look at all of the testosterone on the alt.sex groups...), but it may be women who really make it useful! John Hoopes
