I'll drink to that. Well, ok, I'll drink to most anything. But back in
the days when I worked for the University of Virginia, someone in
accounting or personnel thought it would be a great idea if everyone filled
out forms accounting for the time they spent at work. I got mine and
filled it out with stuff like 25% of my time I spent repairing electronics,
30% of my time I spent maintaining our computers, I spent 20% of my time
reading and researching new developments in the field, and 20% of my time
on faculty, staff and student education and resolution of complaints. You
may notice, as did someone in administration, that I only accounted for 95%
of my time. Of course I was called about it, and when I replied that I
spent the other 5% of my time on miscellaneous things like time surveys,
they saw no humor in that at all and wouldn't rest until I told them that
in reality I spent not 30%, but 35% of my time maintaining computers.
This of course meant that I spent 0% of my time on their survey, but that
didn't seem to bother them at all.
