Diesel exhaust is most likely a typical soup of waste products, by products and unforeseen products... Solid carbon you're right, it's fairly harmless, but still not good to breathe and it's semi-toxic cuz it's coated and trapped with small amounts of sulfates, nitrates and hydro-carbons. CO2, it's a greenhouse gas, you are okay there. CO i don't think it tears up ozone much. of course ozone is so darn unstable, everything tears it up. THe big problem is CO is a toxin. Very poisonous. breathe too much in and face some real problems. I imagine from we also see a lot of H2O, once again harmless itself except for what's trapped in it.. but there will will various nitrogen compounds, created as combustion by-products. once again bad to breathe. sulfur compounds as a residue in the diesel. stray hydro-carbons from the lubricating system and unburned diesel, and god knows what else, from conditioners put in the diesel... pat -- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- No matter how dire the situation, don't panic -- LLIB #280
