Pain is just pain, it is never terminal. Some people who suffer from
terminal diseases suffer pain. The pain can be relieved, but unfortunately
the disease cannot be cured and they will die from it. Proper palliative
care means they do not have to suffer pain during terminal illness.

I recieved pethadine because my pain was not expected to continue for
very long. It worked well, but pethadine only has a short half life and
is not the best option for long term use. Had my pain been expected to
need continual relief I would have recieved morphine, which has no
clinically relevant limit to its analgesic effects, or even one of the
newer synthetic drugs which are up to 5000 times more effective.

BTW I am nearly completely healed already, and I am back at work.
