Survival of the fittest does not work in a social setting. If you lived on this planet by yourself, your freedom of choices, values and ethics would be no problem. As it is there are several billion people on this planet that need to be considered. Realistically, freedom is limited accordingly. If you sneeze, someone in China catches a cold. If a pine tree is dying, it will put out a large number of pine cones. Nature abhors a vacuum. There is a natural conservation of matter. In other words, everything matters. If people are civilized, they set aside some of their freedom to live in a community with a set of values and ethics for the advantage of cooperative effort. People who place no value on human life are considered sociopath and are a considerable threat to everyone including themselves. Without a reasonable set of values and ethics there is only chaos and everyone suffers. Survival of the fittest means that only one person survives not several billion people. Most religions are based on the common good and how to live a constructive life. Unfortunately, the beast within us can rationalize all sorts of bad ideas and actions. We need to care about each others welfare in order to have a quality life in a civilized environment. Dave Eddy

>>Thanks for the comment Ron, There are exceptions to every rule but that does not mean that the rule does not apply. The dinosaur went extinct while the butterfly survived. Christ was probably the most fit but He did not survive in His social setting. Often, the less aggressive survive while the more aggressive destroy each other. Smart people often outsmart themselves. The meek will inherit the earth. Those who become as a child will enter the kingdom of God. The best offense is a good defense. Social skills are important but are they survival skills?
