So far I can't believe the hogwash that been spouted by the anti-gun proponents.

1) That the laws would have prevented Port Arthur (lie)

Martin Bryant was an unlicensed shooter as I believe were the Hoddle St,
Queen Street, and Strafield killers.

2) The gun Martin Bryant used would not be avaliable (lie)

Under the present Tasmanian laws a semi-auto is illegal if it has a
magazine greater than five rounds. Thus the gun was illegal anyway. 

3) Ban all military ammunition its more dangerous. (lie)

If i had a choice of been shot with military ammunition or a hunting round 

eg a .308 Full Metal Jacket or a .308 Shft Nose. 

It would be the .308 FMJ it won't disrupt as much as a .308 soft nose. 

To prove this notice how all almost all hunting prohibts millitary style
ammmo. The reason is to be humane a the a FMJ will go straight through
useally. Leaving a wounded animal to die slowly. The soft nose disrups so
that it causes more internal damage trying to ensure a one shot kill.

4) Automatics are more dangerous than other guns (lie)

Every respectable shooter knows all guns are dangerous and treats every
gun if it is loaded. Dispite what you see on the movies an automatic
firearms is a very ineffective killing tool. 

US statisics for the the military show that to for every one kill by the
the Us  armed forces takes generally thousands of rounds of ammo. Look at
sniper units with the US Armed Forces they generally make a kill of 1
opposing combatant to about 1.6 bullets used. 

In the recent sci.millitary.moderated this debate went on. One particular
respondent remember a training occurrance. Where a one trainee thought the
shoot from the hip Rambo M-60 was effective. The Sergant on the range
finally let him have a go how many hits did he make  less than 2%. In a
three round burst mode on automatics the third shot is almost always drift
from the first two. Most armies find the most trouble they have is that of
training ammunition conservation. Most with full autos fire dry without
hitting everything.

I fear a shooter with a single shot a lot more than any other, he
generally knows how to make that one shot count.

5)Ban on Semi-Automatic Shotguns.

 Generally have a capacity of of 3 rounds. I can buy two double barrell
shotguns and have four shots. What a crock this law is, most shooters use
the semi-auto shotgun as it sucks up recoil alot more effectivly. Banning
semi-autos wouldn't save any wives from domestics violence. Once you've
suck up two rounds of double OO buckshot from a double barrel shotgun you
a third shot won't make a difference. Your already dead !!!! 

Most Skeet shooters and hunters use the semi-auto for the above reason of
recoil.

Most Female skeet shooters unless they train with the chinese swim team
find a semi-auto more usful.

These guns have never from what i can remeber been used in these multiple
homicides.

6) The gun owners who hand the Banned Firearms in aren't the ones you have
to worry about.

7) The Generalisation of all Gun Owners been Red Neck, Rascits,
Neo-Fascits, Parnoid gun tooting loons. Great for media ratings but
untrue. Most shooters are  responsible persons, who obey laws .

8) The best way to save lives in Australia would be too ban all private
motor vehicles , have only public transport with highly trained drivers.
This is the greatest chance you have of being kille. The car is the public
health hazard number one. Don't use the excuse that a car is primary
constructive. It the most destructive invention every available to general
public and to the enviroment in general. Didn't the anti-gun fanatics say
that public interest outways that of the of the shooters. The public
health interest of banning all private vehicles outweighs that of the
individual drivers privliages. Well I trust every shooter i know with my
life rather than every licensed car driver that I know. 

9) Want to know what killed more people in Northern Ireland  guns or
homemade explosives. You got good old garden fertillizer and fuel oil
commercial kown as ANFO. Want to know what killed so many innocent people
in Oklahoma City the same packed into truck. Much easier to hold than a
gun.

10) Nothing like misquoting all shooters statements so we look like 7).
Yep the only way you can regain freedom is to spill blood. No were not all
coming with our guns to get you all. The speaker was generalising than
when a free people lose their freedom the only way they can regain it is
by being prepared to sacfice their lives for that freedom. Look at Burma,
China, East Timor & West PNG (Irian Jiya), Bouganville,  etc... What makes
me ill is that our govt takes law abbiding citizens guns away, but support
unjust regimes like indonesia's regime who persecute and murder innocent
humans who just want freedom. Well John  why don't ban all traing with
indonesia, press for arms embargos on indonesia etc... No guts is why,
can't be seen upseting our neighbours. Shooters are an easy target for
Jonny H. Their easy to marginlise make us look like gun toting crazies. 

11) Want to know what real shooters are like go down to local gun club and
meet them. Mostly you will find happy easy going  stable persons . 

Yes I'm even being PC why cause there are a lot of female shooters. Its a
sport where women can compete equally with men its not strength dominated
its precision sport. I reckon that all matches should be open to all sexes
it be  good for our egos if nothing else. 

Most shooters hate the weekend warriors who grab a gun go out to the bush
and blast everything insight more so than the average person on the
street. They give the majoirty a bad name.

The Anti-Gun nuts want you believe that all shooters are disturbed
individuals  just itching to go a killing. 

12) All hunters regard all life as worthless. (lie)

Its easy when that lamb and steak just shows up at the butchers to be
condem hunters. Know how it got their it got its throat gut and bled to
death. Hunting seems humane to me most hunt usally eat their kill and
respect life alot more. As they took its life they know an other living
entity gave its life so they could eat. It may be unnecessary to hunt with
modern food technology but I firmly believe that killing and eating a wild
animal that has at least enjoyed freedom is better than some caged grain
fed chicken stuck in a tin shed for its for its life.
