Sharing your sorrow, but hoping that this great loss will not deter one Aggie from completing his mission in life with colors flying. Do not let death deter you from making this a better world. You have a war to win. You have Muster to honor your dead for as long as your faithfulness makes that possible. d.e., '81 **************** In 1933 communists in the new deal inserted "the Thomas amendment" into the 1933 Farm Relief Bill. The State Deparment (then secretly aiding Zhou (Mao was Zhou's "front man" as far as they were concerned) claimed that the benefits would benefit Chaing Kai-sheck's nationalist government. Unfortunately then, as now, there were too few real economists in COngress to see through this lie. The program was afatal disaster for China's Nationalist government. Up until then CHina had been the only major country still on the silver standard in 1934. (Chaing Kai-sheck was educated in "Chicago-school" monetarism, incidentally.) Remaining on the silver standard had protected CHina from the great U.S. dollar deflation that followed the monetary contraction set in motion by the stock market crash of 1929. (When dollars bought the Chinese moeny they were actaully buying a commodity, silver!) In the words of Milton Friedman: "U.S. silver policy imposed a major deflation on Nationalist China (then all of China) in 1934-36, accompanied by troubled economic conditions, thereby undermining popular support for Chaing Kai-sheck. More important the policy denuded China of its monetary reserves and drove it off silver and onto a fiat paper standard. " The policy created a paper inflation (apart from individual price increases due to relative scarcities)--which under the influence of U.S. New-Deal "advisors" not opposed to arm-twisting, finally pumped the fiat money supply into the full-blown hyperinflation of 1948-49. Chang Kia-ngau: "many historical forces contributed to the collapse of the Nationalist government after World War 2, ...the direct and immediate cause whifch overshadowed all other factors was undoubtedly the inflation." So in addition to Gen. George C. Marshall betraying Chaing in a thousand ways--including misdirecting Chiang's forces, always away from regions where Mao was about to attack (even airlifting them across the country in some cases) using disinformation in a very "contemporary way."-- it was the U.S. money elite who administered the lethal blow to China's freedom and civilization. One will note how the world's globalist elites used hyperinflation to loot Germany after World War One in 1919. (Did you ever ask why the German government did not simply stop their printing presses to end their inflation? The answer is simple, with secret coercion, the victorious allies (London, Wall Street) would not allow them to. And so with China. I hope this truth can penetrate into the mainland before the coming aggression snuffs out those who know how things really happened. Dick Eastman Yakima U.S.A.
