Electronic/electro-mechanical engineer (II/III/IV)

Job Description:
Phase-Change Solutions Engineering is looking for an experienced electronics
engineer with mechanical skills or a mechanical engineer with an electronics
orientation to work with us on a print engine project. We are looking for
someone who can apply architecture/system-designer level skills, experience,
and judgement to create and implement system solutions for challenging
electronic and electro-mechanical interconnect, packaging, and integration
problems. This person will have product-wide responsibility for finding
solutions to these problems that meet very demanding cost, functionality,
and design-for-manufacturability objectives. In the process this engineer
will need to work closely with EEs, mechanical engineers, and software
professionals in a tightly-focused team design environment. It can be expected
that this person will also need to work closely with Procurement to actively
seek out new vendors as well as to co-operate with manufacturing in order
to develop any necessary new processes. We need someone who will approach
"make-or-buy" decisions with a systems approach to find the optimum solution
based on cost, manufacturability, risk, and schedule considerations.
A committment to quality and good communications skills are necessary for this
position. Specific areas of responsibility will include:

 * Architect and design interconnect systems for circuit boards, motors,
optical and thermal sensors, solenoids, etc.
 * Analyze requirements and specify/source key sensors and electro-mechanical
actuators to meet product functionality at minimum manufacturing cost.
 * Analyze, Implement and verify design features necessary for EMC compliance
   at minimum cost.
 * Participate in detailed design of other mechanical and electro-mechanical
components to insure that the designs meet product safety and agency
   approvability criteria.
 * Participate in flex-circuit and ECB designs to insure clean implementation
   of interconnect systems.
 * (Desired but not required): Participate in the detailed specification,
evaluation, and integration of a custom externally-sourced power supply.

Competencies and experience:
Electronics engineering experience, especially with electromechanical
systems and interconnects. The ideal candidate would have an extensive
knowledge of the economics and logistics of printed-circuit board based design
and manufacturing, including interconnect systems, materials options,
mounting schemes and surface-mount issues. Familiarity with flex-circuit
design and application and an understanding of thermal issues as they
relate to electronic packaging issues will be important. A good familiarity
with power-supply design and power control (motor-driver, etc) devices would
also be valuable. Understanding of the functioning of various mechanical
components will be a necessary part of this position. This person will need
to have or acquire familiarity with both CAE (schematic capture) and mechanical
CAD software. Above all, we need someone with creativity, and imagination
coupled with the practical skills and judgement to make things work.

This position is multi-level. Lesser-qualified candidates will be considered
at the lower levels. This is an immediate opening.

Tektronix and GPID are Equal Opportunity Employers.
