Recently one of the disks on our Sun 4/370 began spitting out the following errors: xd1h: read retry (header not found) -- blk #1195844, abs blk #1228406 xd1h: read retry (header not found) -- blk #1195846, abs blk #1228408 xd1h: read failed (header not found) -- blk #1195846, abs blk #1228408 rfs_read: map failed, error = 5 xd1h: read retry (header not found) -- blk #1195846, abs blk #1228408 xd1h: read fixed (seek retry) -- blk #1195840, abs blk #1228402 I've listed what I've done to correct it below. I guess what I'm looking for is some assurance that I did the right thing, or for someone to tell me I left something out. Any experiences, good or bad, would help. First we backed the thing up on tape. (It took several tries to get a good tape). Then, we "diffed" the tape to the disk (also took several attempts). We unmounted it, then got into the format menu and ran the analyze program. It said it had corrected about 55 media errors. Then I formatted it with no problems. Just to be on the safe side, I ran the analyze again in compare mode, and let it loop continuous for 40 passes. There were no errors. I formatted again, just to be sure. I couldn't think of any reason to relabel the disk, so I didn't. I'm fishing for some opinions on the subject before I put the data back on. Thanks in advance. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- | Ken Foster | Tektronix, Inc. | (503) 685-2170 | kfoster@orca.wv.tek.com | --------------------------------------------------------------------------- | John 3:16 John 10:10 Romans 3:23 Romans 6:23 Romans 5:8 1 Cor 15:3-6 | | John 14:6 John 1:12 Ephesians 2:8-9 John 3:1-8 Rev 3:20 1 John 5:11-13 | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
