California’s medical cannabis law, county supervisors are persisting in

seeking to overturn the law for everyone in the state.

was brought into heartbreaking relief in San Francisco yesterday.
Prominent patient-activist Steve Kubby, who is bravely battling a rare
cancer, was arrested on drug charges after being deported from Canada.
Word last night from Mr. Kubby was that his jailors were refusing him
the medical treatment that has been keeping him alive.

MONTANA: First Test Case To Hit Courts
As was mentioned last week in relation to Rhode Island’s new medical
cannabis law, as hard as it is to get such legislation passed in some
states, making sure that patients are actually protected on a day-to-day
basis can be even harder. Montana courts and law enforcement officials
must now make the law work for those it is intended to serve.

CALIFORNIA: Local Implementation
Directing local governments to figure out how to implement the state’s
medical cannabis laws has the benefit of allowing for solutions specific
to local needs, but it also runs the risk of creating disparities
between adjacent areas that unduly influence policy or burden patients.
Mandating uniform compliance on issues like ID cards, for instance,
keeps patients from having to move to enjoy full legal protection.
