ALL INVITED -- sorry if you got 2 or more notices I wanted to make sure that you felt invited. See you there!! I will be busy recording the event on videotape and sending RealVideo streaming http://www.panam-bydesign.net (hopefully) Please subscribe to the news on the server.. Opens Thursday _________________________________________________________ SPECIAL ADVANCE INVITATION TO 1999 VISIONARY SPEAKERS SERIES ____________________________________________________________________ Happy New Year. The McLuhan Program in Culture and Technology is pleased to announce the sequel to the highly successful Canada byDesign series, an experiment in digital democracy. No nation can afford to consider new media and policy apart from the global context. So this year the byDesign team has broadened its horizons to include the entire Western hemisphere from the Arctic to Tierra del Fuego in the PanAm byDesign: Building Knowledge Networks Using New Media and Policy. To convene this discussion, again we are combining the traditional medium of moderated face to face live events with the new medium of an interactive web site. The PanAm byDesign electronic commons focuses on questions of new media and policy by forging local, national, and international connections. The web site (http://www.panam-bydesign.net) will host forums in French, English, Spanish and Portuguese. In addition, groups can convene their own live web and teleconference discussions. The launch of PanAmerica byDesign weekly Visionary Speakers Series is right around the corner. We hope you can attend and please extend this invitation to anyone who may be interested. In future weeks we will be presenting cabinet ministers and senior telecommunications representatives. All PanAmerica byDesign events will be held each Thursday until April 8 at the Bissell Building, U of T, 140 St George Street (North of Harbord), Auditorium 205 Cost is free, but seating is limited.
