If you are thinking of using this name as your News Group provider be very leery. The operator uses the original "Bait & Switch" tactic to sucker you in. He'll start by offering a flat fee of $3.95. Within 90 or so days he'll tell you that the "Free" server has problems and you'll get poor service. While this is occurring he'll suggest you now should pay $7.95 per month for his premium service. If you don't he'll set his server so that you will not get more than one (1) message download per day, All the while stating that its your software & your settings. He is nothing but a scurrilous knave, a charlatan. Be careful..

I've used the onetime $3.95 (cost me $2.95 at the time) membership at Teranews as a backup newsgroup for more than two years. While it does go down once in awhile, it's been quite reliable when needed and I've usually been able to download more than my daily quota of 50 megs. Maybe someone at Teranews doesn't like you. I wonder why that would be?

While his alleged practices leave much to be desired, $7.95 a month for a good nntp service is pretty reasonable. Me, I'm not willing to subsidize my Rogers Internet with an additional 8-10 dollars per month, just to get a service they should be providing me. I've already set my cancellation up with them and I'm off to FCI as my new ISP. Thanks for the heads up though, Devil "The Dundgeon Devil" <pmanny@magma.ca> wrote in message news:1133268267.010953.280940@f14g2000cwb.googlegroups.com... > If you are thinking of using this name as your News Group provider be > very leery. What I'm telling you is how this person has ripped me off and I don't deserve it as I paid my money. What you've said in no uncertain terms is: "He's not ripped me off yet," so I wish you the best of luck.

So you paid your $3.95 and the service did not live up to what you hoped it to be. Possibly aggravating, but it's only $3.95. You spend more than that when you go out for a burger. > What you've said in no uncertain terms is: "He's not ripped me off > yet," so I wish you the best of luck. Exactly how ripped of will I be for the $2.95 I paid two years ago? If I went around thinking all the time that eventually I'm going to be ripped off, I'd be a meaner SOB than I already am. :)

Check out 3Web as a possible ISP alternative to Rogers. To be exact, 3Web resells Rogers in terms of internet traffic (i.e. access to the internet). The only things that will be different is that 3Web does the billing, you'll be using their e-mail sever, newsgroup server, and access to their almost non-existent technical support. If you can support yourself, they are good alternative to a Rogers subscription. Same Rogers reliability (in terms of internet access), but at a lower price. If you can't solve your own tech problems and think that you'll need 3Web tech support, stay away from 3Web and find another provider. I've been with them for almost a year and I am very pleased. And, they have their own newsgroup server!!! Their web address is: www.3web.com There's a long thread about 3Web and Rogers at www.redflagdeals.om in which a lot of people are switching over (same service, but at a lower price). So much so that if you are an existing Rogers customer and call "Customer Relations" and ask for the 3Web promo, they will match 3Web prices. However, you still will not get a newsgroup server. You have to ask the customer service agent to transfer you to Customer Relations if you want to take advantage of the promo. The sales people don't know about it - honestly! Again, there's a long thread on this in the forum section of redflagdeals under Hot Deals - do a search using 3web or Rogers as the key search words.
