I think someone is trying to tell you that this is a forsale NG not a for
auction NG. An auction is not the same as a item forsale.

Actually, it is for sale...just to the highest bidder.
Although he should have listed it as FA not FS.
Look up the word "auction" in a dictionary.

I can't understand why some people have such a problem with auction
items listed as long as they are listed as such.

If you insist in saying that a "for sale" NG is only to list items for
sale, then you eliminate many other listing such as:
- wanted to buy
- looking for
- want to trade
- free
- for rent
- ride wanted

This would also eliminate any response to any forsale item as in the
one you posted to these NG's as you are not selling anything....merely
commenting.

Unless the charter for any particular NG specifically says that there
are to be no auction items listed...then I don't see a pronblem with
it.

hmmmm, I think that was more than my 2 cents worth.

And from what I've seen, it's usually people who have a personal
grudge against eBay that are the first to complain about auction items
listed in forsale newsgroups.

NO, that is just stupid thinking..

FS and FA is totally different things....

FS means to sell items on whatever price.... FA means "Sell to highest
bidder"

Read your own words...sell items at whatever price" and "sell to the
highest bidder"

Do you see the common denominator there or do I honestly have to spell
it out for you?

What he is trying to say is "whatever" price means a "fixed" priced.

An item "For Sale" has a fixed price and is offered to the first person
willing to pay that price.
An "Auction" doesn't not have a fixed price and is a competition for
those willing to pay what they determine is a price they are willing to
pay. The buyer could make out on an auction by receiving more than the
item is worth or break and not receive what it's worth.

Bottom line, there is a MAJOR difference between the two. I, for one,
don't care if it's listed in here, but I do think is legit to at least
ask to list it as an (FA) and not a (FS) item.

I understand exactly what he is trying to say. Is there a difference
in the selling process....yes. But the end result is the same...money
is exchanged for item(s)....and that is known as "selling"...no matter
how you look at it.

The fact is, it is no more different than the other postings I see
here (ie. wanted to buy, for rent, for trade, best offer, etc.) so if
those are allowed and no one calls it "spamming" then what is the
issue with auctions?

What about a person selling something "for best offer"?
Wouldn't that constitute an auction as the highest bidder will likely
be the person the item is sold to?

As I said in my first reply in this thread...the posting should have
said FA...not FS. So we are in agreement as per the last line of your
post.

What the hell is wrong with you people!!
If someone posts something "For Sale" you always complain
about the price being too high but if someone posts an auction
and starts it off at .01 cent with no reserve you still bitch and
belly ache that it's an auction with no fixed price...

There is absolutely no pleasing some people so why try.

you have a complaint... moderator@whiners.com
