Here's a request from Jim Omura for a small newsfeed;
he was getting news from lsuc, and now wants to resume
it. Since lsuc is not yet carrying news again, he's
looking for another connection.

Please reply to him at jimomura@cai.lsuc.on.ca -

My feed was small. Without compression, it was around 40K per day.
The groups I received were the following:

ont.general
ont.jobs
ont.politics (not sure if this was real -- not important)
comp.sys.os9
comp.sys.atari.st
rec.arts.anime
rec.games.video
ont.test

I think that was about all. In general, that's about what I'd like
to receive again. Some minor changes might be nice. There's a 'soc'
group for 'japan'. I think I had that before too, but I can't remember
the name offhand. I would prefer to replace the 'comp.sys.atari.st'
with the 'comp.sys.atari.st.tech' group which should have less traffic
and more technically adept. I don't know how busy the 'amiga' groups
are, but I wouldn't mind receiving one of those -- perhaps an
'amiga.tech' group or an 'amiga.video' group if there are such.

This time around, the package I'm testing should be able to support
compressed transfers. The first modem test would be at 1200 baud, but
I have a 2400 baud modem also and will probably switch to it later.
I won't be using anything higher speed than that. Call times would be
overnight, probably 02:00 to 06:00. It would be best to arrange this
as a "1 way" connect system where my system would call out and not be
expecting to receive calls. That's because I only have 1 data phone
line and it's generally being used by another computer.

Mail will generally stay via 'lsuc'. I don't trust this software
for anything important that is sent directly to me. The last package
I had lost messages without any trace. This one shouldn't do that, but
it's something I'll be watching for in the coming months.

Cheers! -- Jim O.
