The Toronto Freenet is on the
brink of collapse. With a mass
exodus of it's Board of Directors
and ongoing elections for a new
set of Directors very important
decisions are being made by TFN
members for the future of Community
Networks both regionally and
internationally.
The most critical elements to
the survival of the TFN are fund
raising, volunteers and integrity.
TFN has 200 phone lines. It is
essential that sponsors be found
to support each of these lines.
That would bring in about two
hundred thousand dollars per year.
In combination with member's
generous donations and other
support this would ensure
that the Freenet remains FREE.
TFN is not a business though
it demands serious and accountable
management. TFN is a non-profit
hopefully soon to become charitable
organization run by VOLUNTEERS.
This fact requires a friendly and
experienced staff well versed in
the dynamics of volunteerism and
non-profit groups.
Finally TFN require integrity
that will not fail or flinch when
comes to tough decisions, admission
of past errors and determinations
of future course. Perhaps this last
element is the most important.
I encourage all persons interested
in the Freenet movement and community
networking to support the Toronto
Freenet with donations and your
active interest. TFN has suffered
great damage... let us all work
towards it's rising from the ashes.
