It's not a Canadian ISP being sued, it's Cornell University.  Lawrence
Godfrey is suing Cornell  (He's very good at this sort of thing.)
because a Canadian student, who now lives in B. C., posted messages he
(Godfrey) thought were libellous.

Cornell has retained counsel in the UK.

An excerpt from the June 11, on-line (London)Telegraph:

Lawrence Godfrey, who lectures in Britain on physics and computer
science, is suing Cornell University and Michael Dolenga, a
postgraduate, over allegations posted on the soc.culture.canada
newsgroup.  He is claiming �50,000 for the "extremely damaging, false
and malicious postings".  The court has already issued a default
judgment against Dolenga.
