Geoffrey, what the fuck is going on with *you?* Iva made her post 11 days ago (March 15/98). While the subject might be better posted in torfree.help than in torfree.general, I don't see a *huge* problem with her posting it here. Why bring up such a venomous response now?? I don't get it. You say she's demanding the "resources of others" by posting her inquiry; however, no one's holding a gun to your head to repond, if that's the way you feel. If you have been pulled into this issue in some other way, perhaps you could fill us all in on why. You then go on to cite a very long-ago issue which has nothing to do with her current post (that of her criticism of a former tenant of hers). Why bring this up here and how? If this issue is unresolved for you and you need to continue to rehash it with her, surely you don't need the excuse of her question about faulty computer equipment to raise the issue? I have no idea who Jason Aaron Black is or Marc "the inbred" or why they are relevant to Iva's post. If these things are connected in your mind, perhaps you could share with the rest of us just what the connections are, instead of posting a cryptic flame. I don't know why she is being blamed for him either, but Jason Aaron Black is cj224@torfree.net. If you notice his posts on can.general, then if the poster here has reasons for imagining that the person with a color monitor problem has something to do with him _then_ these would be valid reasons for otherwise bizarre criticisms. Basically, posts bearing the E-mail address cj224@torfree.net and the name Jason Aaron Black contain material of a white supremacist and a neo-Nazi nature. John Savard

That is weird thinking. Why put up with partial service from an easily repairable device? The cost of repair is less than the loss in value of the monitor, due to such a limitation, amortized over its remaining service life. > it is somewhat tiresome to listen to you demand the resources of >others to explain you can simply replace a cable connector. and there >are better forums to discuss these matters. Acceptable color on a VGA monitor means correct functioning of the R, G, and B signals. Obviously, if one pin is broken on a cable, but fixing other bent pins brings back partial color, the cable is at fault. Now, one could replace the connector on one end of the cable. To do this, one would need to have a continuity tester or ohmmeter, so that one knows which wire is which. And one needs to use a soldering iron. Not everyone is perhaps ready to attempt such a repair; obviously, the only remaining alternative is to buy a new cable. But if the cable is "permanent" - that is, it comes out from the monitor without a connector at that end, then soldering is a better idea. Now, the connector at the computer end on the cable: is it molded in one piece? If so, one will have to cut it off leaving some length of cable on the connector, so one can use an ohmmeter to find out which color of wire goes to which pin. If you lose that information then you have no way to attach a new connector. John Savard

well, we've heard of road rage? well wendy et al, this geoffrey chap who went on this tangent just engaged in some 'net rage. its the latest thing. real hip fad eh, all the 'rage' you know. and a sign of the times, the anonymity and distance yet the in-your-face aspect all rolled into one. some people just cant handle all that power to intimidate........ those targetted by his type have no need to reciprocate. a view which will probably incurr some sort of flame attempt.
