Who, you ask yourself, would
have any interest in Toronto
Freenet sufficient to engage
in the destructive and negative
actions I have described? "Ha!"
you laugh to yourselves, "TFN
is worthless - and almost bankrupt!
Bob's as crazy as our old friend
Nabil!"
Well now Nabil may have been onto
something. Poorly formed and in-
adequately expressed. But something.
TFN is worth millions of dollars if
you consider it as a community of
20,000 persons. Community Networking
is a vast and as yet unsuccessful
market for businesses. And having such
a large potential starter base may
be very appealing to possible
investors.
"But", you say to me "TFN was almost
bankrupt!" The perfect opportunity
to walk in, let it go down the drain
and then privatize TFN as the core of
a commercial venture. The advertising
potential for a revamped TFN alone
will pay a handsome income. Then there
are the ineveitable access fees.
It may even be necessary to advocate
*NO* access or suplementary feews at all
until TFN goes bankrupt. Which is why
I have, relunctantly changed my views
and now support limited fees. Strictly
on premium services though.
TFN was and still is a sitting duck.
We must safeguard this community from
privatization while keeping it free
at a basic level. Don't ever forget how
important a seed like TFN will be in
defining the so-called marketplace
in a year or two. Let's keep it free
from profiteers as well as censors.
Thank you for your patience.

Yep, just like the Olympics. I've heard you call for massive corporate support of the TFN before, boB. Yet, you're the first one to scream when corporations get involved in the support of any activity (eg amature athletics). Why do you think they'll behave any differently with your precious TFN? Me thinks the first move they would make is to silence you. > a commercial venture. The advertising > potential for a revamped TFN alone > will pay a handsome income. I believe Yahoo! is the only site that's actually broken even based on ad revenues. > in a year or two. Let's keep it free > from profiteers as well as censors.
