More on electronic discussion groups.

First, I didn't put anyone on the new lists (TF-TECH and TF-OPS) so those
of you who have already been active in these groups, need to subscribe
yourselves.

Hardly anyone has signed up yet. Any problems?

There have been requests to do automatic forwarding from rtpfreenet to the
news group triangle.freenet and vice versa. There have also been requests
to automatically forward messages from ALL the discussion groups to
triangle.freenet.

It seems to me that we want to post to rtpfreenet, ALL meeting
announcements, minutes of all meetings, and general information, and that
we want to encourage lots of discussion about details on the tf-tech,
tf-ops, tf-data, tf-fund, and tf-pub lists. It makes sense to me to
automatically forward ALL the postings to triangle.freenet. In which case
we would NOT want to forward from triangle.freenet to rtpfreenet.

What do you think?

In the interest of conserving bytes, my vote is for the latter proposal.

By the way, I just relocated to the area, and might be interested in getting
involved with the Freenet project. Who should I contact for some general
information on the project?

I think everyone who can see these postings has access to triangle.freenet,
but isn't neccessarily interested in subscribing to all/any mailing lists.
(i.e. Potential high traffic mailing lists can clutter people's mailers
possibly interfering with or overwhelming work related mail.) Therefore,
it would make more sense, IMHO, to forward all discussion groups mail to
triangle.freenet, but do not bother forwarding anything in triangle.freenet
to the mailing lists. People can then limit/concentrate their intake of
'Triangle Freenet' info via specific mailing list(s) and can occasionally
check triangle.freenet for other tidbits they might be missing.

I disagree. I agree that all postings from rtpfreenet should go to
triangle.freenet, but I also think that everything on triangle.freenet
should go to rtpfreenet. Otherwise the people on the mailing list will
still have to keep up with the newsgroup, and people who prefer the
newsgroup will not be heard by the mailing list-only people. The whole
point of this should be that they are the same thing, so anyone can
choose which format they want to use without missing any info.

But the tf-* lists need not be gated to triangle.freenet.
