I just jumped into this conversation, and it seems to be a rather heated one. I don't really understand why such a personal choice is such a HOT topic. However, I have pretty strong feelings about my own name. It is MY NAME. I don't think I should have to take another name if I get married, and I will choose not to. I personally don't see how someone could change the name they've lived with their whole life previously, and I don't want to do it. Of course, there will be those who don't mind, or don't think they have a choice who will decide to go with the husband's name. And of course, there will be those who have horrible maiden names they need to get rid of :o) And contrary to what Matt said, I do believe that this is beginning to be an issue with a lot of couples... it is not just the 'fringe' of society. ON the other hand, I think that there are a lot of men who have just not considered the possibility that someone would NOT want to take their name (as evidenced by reactions to this conversation with previous boyfriends). I think that men out not to require the name change for the new bride. It should be a gift, if given at all. The real question here is not whose name is changed, but when/if children are brought into the family, should they have to take the father's name? That's a good application of that combo-name, or the new made-up name. Cheers, Steph:o) -----== Posted via Deja News, The Leader in Internet Discussion ==----- http://www.dejanews.com/rg_mkgrp.xp Create Your Own Free Member Forum
