Provided you know that person is unthinking, sure. Does it occur to you that the person who seeks 'refuge' in tradition might, just maybe, have come to the conclusion that the tradition really is the best option for him? For me, before I propsed to my fiancee, I decided that I needed to approach her father first and ask him for his permission and blessing. Now I'm 24 and she' not to far off 21, so neither of us are legally constrained to seek his permission. However, my respect for my fiancee and her parents required me to do so. I can tell you that -both- of my parents told me they'd like to see me do that and wished my dad had asked my grandfather first b/c of things like deference. My fiancee told me that her parents (after I'd already decided to do so) were hoping that I'd ask her father first, too. I wasdn't playing the lemming when I _decided_ to follow what you might deem an old tradition. I didn't have my hands over my eyes either. I knew full well what I was doing and why I chose to do it--I thought about it. Assuming that those who adhere to tradition do so simply b/c of its existence and b/c the must prefer blind acceptance is pretty arrogant on your part. -- === Matt "The ThighMaster" Damick ===========1610== NC State === mwdamick@unity.ncsu.edu ======================= Chemical === Theoretical Perfect World Engineering, Ltd. === Engineering
