Abstract:
Division, Inc. is a leading supplier of professional virtual reality systems.
Founded in 1989 in Bristol, U.K., Division has recently opened a product
development, sales and marketing office in Chapel Hill. Division will present
information about its key virtual reality products. There will also be a
demonstration of Division's products following the talk.
These include:
- dVS, a virtual world runtime environment based on a distributed model
in which different elements of the virtual environment are controlled
by autonomous parallel servers.
- dVISE, an interactive tool for development of complex virtual worlds.
Worlds are composed of Virtual Objects, each with user-defined
attributes such as color, texture, behaviour, audio characteristics,
etc. Interaction is through both 2D windows and 3D menus in the
immersive environment.
- ProVISION 100 VPX, a fully integrated virtual reality system combining
stereo graphics, 3D sound, and low latency interactivity in a single
chassis. The image generation is based on Pixel Planes technology
licensed from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill,
Department of Computer Science, and can generate up to 500K textured
polygons/second. It also has the capacity for almost 1Gpixel
throughput per eye.
