HAMFEST INFO, January 1993
Welcome to the twenty-third edition of the Hamfest Info mailing list. This
list covers hamfests in North and South Carolina, and is updated as needed,
usually about once a month. I have included a few hamfests outside of the
Carolinas that may be of interest. If you do not desire to receive this
information, let me know. If you know someone reachable by e-mail who would
like to receive this information, let me know and I will add them to the list.
If you need info about a specific hamfest, send e-mail; I can find out
just about anything you need to know and would be happy to pass it along.

Miscellaneous notes:
If your club has selected a date for a 1993 hamfest and it does not
appear as a confirmed date in the calendar below, please let me know!
The next issue will be out in mid-February and will include information
on the Charlotte Hamfest and the Antique Wireless Association meet.

Upcoming events:
ELKIN WINTER HAMFEST
The Elkin Winter Hamfest will be held Sunday, February 14, 1993 at the
NC National Guard Armory starting at 8 AM. This event is sponsored by
the Briarpatch and Foothills Amateur Radio Clubs and is an ARRL sanctioned
hamfest.
There is an indoor dealer and flea market area, and outdoor
tailgating is permitted (limited by available space).
Exams will be offered by preregistration only by the TEARC/VEC group;
and major and hourly door prizes will be awarded.
Talk-in is on the 145.37 repeater.
Admission is $5, Tailgating is $2 plus a $5 ticket; indoor tables are $10
each. No advance ticket sales. For table reservations and information,
contact either of the following:
Jimmy Holbrook, Rt. 1, Box 567, Ronda NC 28670; 919-957-3820 after 6PM
or
Dortha Talbert, Rt 1 Box 93 B, Lowgap NC 27024; 919-320-2955
FCC Exams will be given at 9 AM by preregistration ONLY. Send a
completed FCC Form 610, a photocopy of any licenses or certificates you
hold and a check or money order for $5.60 to:
TEARC/VEC, Jim Williamson NQ4T, 3504 Stonehurst Place, High Point NC 27260
or call 919-841-7576 for more information.
This is a small hamfest which tends to draw decent crowds; mostly due to
it being the first hamfest in North Carolina each year. I have been to it
twice so far and have been reasonably surprised at the attendance. Like a
couple of other hamfests held in NG Armories, it has almost outgrown
the facilities.
CHARLESTON SC HAMFEST
The Charleston Hamfest will be held Saturday, February 20, 1993 from
8:30 AM to 4:00 PM at Charlestowne Landing in the Geodesic Dome,
1500 Old Town Plantation Rd off of Highway 171.
This event is sponsored by the Charleston Amateur Radio Society, Inc.
and is an ARRL sanctioned hamfest.
Talk-in will be on the 146.79 repeater, other repeaters include 145.25 and
and 147.27.
Tickets will be sold Saturday morning at the door only.
$5 for adults, children under 12 free.
A large indoor area with plenty of tables available for $8 each in
advance, or $10 at the door.
Rooms are available for forums or meetings. There will be MARS and
ARRL meetings.
Refreshments will be available. In past years this has included
coffee, doughnuts, soft drinks, chips and hot dogs, no word if the
same will be served this year.
VE Exams will be given. Please bring 2 IDs (one with photo),
the original and a photocopy of your license and any certificates you
may hold. The session will begin at 11 AM. All testing will be on a
WALK-IN basis only. No laptop computers or keyboards will be allowed.
For further information, call 803-871-4368 or 803-572-1164.
For more information about the hamfest, call Jenny Myers, 803-747-2324
or Linwood Sikes, 803-556-5566.
