Mature Runners is a race that doesn�t necessarily go to the swiftest. 
Or maybe it does, all things considered. 
 
Race officials assign everyone a starting time handicap, based on the 
1991 TacStats/USA standards for age and gender, which appear below. 
Look down the gender column to find your age and corresponding 
handicap. This system gives all participants in the race a more nearly 
equal changes to cross the finish line first. 
 
How does it work?  Your race number will have your  handicap printed 
on it.  At 10:00, Godiva�s start/finish line clock will start to court 
 down, from the highest handicap time among those runners entered.  A 
73 year old male, for instance,  would have a �17� handicap.  With the 
clock starting at 17 minutes, this runner would start to race. A  57 
year old woman would begin when the clocks get to 15. Every 30 seconds 
after 10:00,  if there is a runner present with a handicap matching 
the countdown time, that runner will start, and so on until, finally, 
the 24 and 25 year old males start at 0:00.
