10:00 to 11:00 - Barbara Kolkhorst on Process Improvement

You will need to pre-register for this meeting so that badges can be

for extra people.
Barbara Kolkhorst is a Senior Systems Engineer with the IBM Federal
Application Development Consulting Practice. Her work has
focused on evaluating and improving the software development
process to produce affordable, highly reliable software systems.
Ms. Kolkhorst has extensive experience as a software
development manager and in lead technical positions for software
products on NASA's Space Shuttle program. She has over 25 years
experience in all phases of the software development life cycle,
developing highly reliable software for applications supporting manned
space flight, nuclear energy, and modeling for business economics.
Ms. Kolkhorst facilitated the definition of and implementation
of key software quality programs for an organization that is world
class in software process. Her development of the software quality planning and
reporting system, the documentation of that program and the preparation
of the technical documentation resulted in IBM receiving the NASA
Excellence Award for Quality and Productivity in 1987. This
process was evaluated at the highest level of the Carnegie Mellon University
Software Engineering Institute (CMU-SEI) process maturity scale in 1989.
She will be sharing her experiences with us.
Directions to DG: the easiest way to get here is to take the Alexander
Drive exit off the Durham Freeway (turn left if you're coming from
Raleigh, right if from Durham). Go through the light at Cornwallis and
DG will be the second building on the right. (Alexander Drive is the
same road that Glaxo is on). There is limited guest parking at the front
of the building; if that's full, park anywhere in the side or rear lots
but you must enter through the front door. There will be a registration
desk where you will pick up your badge.
Hope to see you there. Please call if you have any questions.
Please pass a copy of this letter to quality conscious colleagues.
