What do you mean by "hacking"? I guess people have been hacking on
machines for a long long time, well even the invention of the wheel was
(in a way) a great hack. There are loads of more or less good books
about history of hacking computers, phones and other electronic
devices....and the same goes for web pages, here's a page with little
information to start off with, but there are many many better sources
than this:
