Is it dead?

My son brought home his malfunctioning P75 Gateway for me to try
and fix. The move apparently got it
working, as it booted ok once set up here. We backed up the files he
wanted to save before doing anything
else, and then it died again. Nothing comes up on the screen at all. I
checked all the cable connections -no
help. I replaced the hard drive cable with a new one -no help. There's
very little or no hard drive activity on
boot-up. The video (on the motherboard) seems to function ok; clean
blank screen, if the monitor cable is
disconnected it goes to static.
Here's my guesses as to what's wrong: CPU died (or is not
making good contact?, didn't check that one
yet!), OR, the BIOS is bad, OR, the EPROM chip is bad (or loose -got to
check that one too).

My guess is that there is a broken track on the motherboard ,give it a
flex or take it for another drive in the car(old cars in conjunction
with bad roads work best).

And just to add my two cents. It could be a loose CPU or faulty socket. If
it only works when it's cold, you could buy some freeze spray, then start
isolating the area by freezing an area, then powering up.

The move probably reseated everything - just push all the cards in properly.

If it's working - it ain't dead
