% xsetroot -solid blue

or

% xsetroot -solid #06a6a6

if you want to do a RGB specification. Use three hex numbers (00 = black,
ff = white) like in the above example.

Add it to the InitFunction of your .fvwmrc file. You may also want to try:

xsetroot -cursor \
        /usr/X11R6/include/X11/bitmaps/left_ptr \
        /usr/X11R6/include/X11/bitmaps/left_ptrmsk

to get rid of that ugly "X" as the default mouse cursor. (Dump the "\"
and put it all on one line if you add this to your .fvwmrc)

You may also want to play with something like "xv -root -quit mypicture.gif"
if you have installed xv on your system.

Paul.

I'd recommend to place these lines in ~/.xinitrc and/or in ~/.xsession
depending on how you start X.
