In regards to the Rental Agents achieving entry into 'your' apartment, the only way I know of to keep them out is to get a dog. My girlfriend has a dog (not even a big one) but when she puts in a work order they have to ask her when she'll be there so they can work on it. They won't come into her apartment because of the dog. Because if the dog bites one of the workers she isn't liable for it so they get no money from her. Sure, it's an additional $150-300 dollars for a pet deposit but it seems kinda worth it if you are worried about people breaking in. Make sure you get a dog with a good deep bark so they won't know how big (or small) it is.
