I am amazed at what IS taught in American Schools; and I do not think
that you can assemble all of it under the label of "crap" that actually
has no meaning at all, other the general classification of "bad."

One case, for example, is that of the "life, history and presidency of
A. Lincoln. I attended grammar school in the North East; Connecticut.
Lincoln, in every act and as a person, was presented as "Our Greatest
President" and attributed to have both motives and virtues without end.

The lessons were "successfully impressioned." I never even heard that
there were criticisms of him, no less hearing of a "particular
instance." It was not till my mid-twenties that I "discovered" that a
"Southern View" of him existed; and that was due to an interest in the
issues of politics, not Lincoln.

And while you say that "that crap" is not taught in American Schools," I
can tell you outright that you are wrong. The lessons included issues of
"slavery" linked to The Alamo and Yes, Jim Bowie, Davy Crockett, Sam
Houston and others were "heroes" of Freedom in the context of "The War,"
the lessons never seemed to address the conflict of "freedom heroes" and
"slavery issues of The South and The Alamo" at the same time.

The issues raised here are much too broad and deep for newsgroups. These
deserve the personal responsibility of finding and reading "both sides"
of history before deciding where to stand on issues. The information was
always available, but required much interest, time and effort. You now
have the Internet, making information more easily available, but this
also requires verification of sources.

Your gratuitous judgements, remarks, labels and re-definition of the
statements of another poster accomplish little; beyond suggesting that
they actually may be applied to you as validly as you apply them to
others...

"Cracking a book ..." does not create "smart" nor does it solve "hate."

PS: Is your sig: "Long Ranger" a play on words or a misgnomer for "The
Lone Ranger" ..? A question - not a criticism...
