Ah, then you place yourself in the 'those who have bought into the
'dire threat to America' campaign' group. Okay, thats settled. Now
convince us that Iraq with half a dozen SCUDs, a few dozen FROGs and
no airforce is a greater threat than say, North Korea which has dozens
of intermediate range missiles, hundreds of short range ones and a
stockpile of warheads capable of delivering any of their mass terror
items. Why are the North Koreans, who were named the number 1 in the
'Axis of Evil' by Bush et al, a lesser threat than Iraq?

You cannot explain that in any believable manner, except by going
beyond a military threat and incorporating an alternative. Now what
other factors are there? Economic is all, well maybe a religious one
based upon finishing the crusades or some such. But I doubt you'll
convince many of that being the prime reason for attacking Iraq.

You can bring up the 'protect Israel' and that probably plays a role
at some low level, or even the very real, I'm gonna finish my Daddy's
work and save the family face, and that too probably plays a small
role overall. There is also the real fact that this administration
must turn attention away from its failure to get bin Laden, his aides
and even the one-eyed ragtag barbarian Mullah Omar. But when it all
winnows out, what is left as the largest chunk in the tarp is
MONEY(Oil).

Next the statesmen will invent cheap lies, putting the blame upon the nation that is attacked, and every man will be glad of those conscience-soothing falsities, and will diligently study them, and refuse to examine any refutations of them; and thus he will by and by convince himself that the war is just, and will thank God for the better sleep he enjoys after this process of grotesque self-deception.
