If you are going to >pay for calls received on your 800 number, you better well get an >itemized detail of those charges. Methinks, Mr Spock, that you need to reevaluate your position on the logic of the above argument. One could argue using your own analogy that I am paying for my telephone therefore I deserve a list of people and or numbers that call it. (yes but 800 numbers are pay as you go) I submit that, under the same logic, cellular telephones would fall into the same catagory since anyone can initiate a call to one which would be billed to the recipient. >>CLID is putting the power to choose who interrupts your life at >>dinner time where it belongs. > >...for twice the price of an answering machine set in `screen' mode and >at a fraction of the effectiveness. Mr Spock your logic unfounded. How can you possible judge effectiveness by mere speculation. *IF* I had the information available in the inbound data stream to my telephone, you would be able to count the hours before I had a "black box" that would redirect calls from numbers not in a list to an answering machine. I might even have a "special" message reserved for certain numbers. I feel that the above would be highly effective method of dealing with people like ALLEN GWINN who inist on calling at each commercial break during the premiere of Deep Space 9. Oh yeah, shortly afterwards I'ed build another "black box" that would do the samething for my computer, but it would only raise DTR to the modem *IF* a call came from a known number. doug
