[Distribution was set to bc, but it will probably not work in some
cases. I wish I could set the distribution to include nearby parts
 of Washington State as well.]

Announcing three talks at the University of British Columbia
by the Cecil and Ida Green Visiting Professor,
WALLACE S. BROECKER, Newberry Professor of Geology,
Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, Columbia University, NY.
Please pass this on to anyone you know who might be interested.

A gifted storyteller, Wally Broecker makes science come
alive. He is the leading marine paleoclimatologist, with
a broad view of the planet and firm strategies for researching
global change. In books such as _How to Build a Habitable
Planet_, _Chemical Oceanography_ and _Tracers in the Sea_,
his conceptual approach outlasts the supporting data. His writing
makes complex geochemical processes seem simple and clear.

There will be three talks:

1. Heinrich Events: Fresh Water Pulses from Glaciers
Melting into the North Atlantic Triggering Global Change
      Oceanography Seminar
      Tuesday, November 2 (TODAY) at 3:30 p.m.
      Scarfe (education) Building, Room 100
NOTE THE ROOM CHANGE FROM EARLY FLYERS

2. Ice Age Earth: World Climate and Oceans During the Last Ice Age
      Geological Sciences/Whole Earth seminar
      Thursday, November 4 at 12:30--2:30 p.m.
      Scarfe Building, Room 100.

3. Is Fossil Fuel Carbon Dioxide Greening the Earth?
     The Vancouver Institute lecture.
     Saturday, November 6 at 8:15 p.m.
Woodward Instructional Resources Centre, Hall 2

I guess that this last talk will be most suitable
for a general audience -- correct me if I'm wrong --
but the first two should also be easy to follow.

This info was copied, with minor edits, from a fax from
the UBC Department of Geological Sciences.
