The 31 is not a substitute for some form of LRT. The 31 only runs during rush hours. The 31 doesn't stop west of Oak. The 31 runs infrequently. It is a good way to get from UBC to the Commercial SkyTrain station and back, but it is almost useless as a way for getting from one point on Broadway to another quickly. Ideally Broadway needs LRT that stops at every major intersection between UBC and at least the SkyTrain station, and ideally continues out to Burnaby and Coquitlem. The Broadway corridor is one of the most heavily travelled routes in the Lower Mainland and contains several of the larges commuter destinations in Vancouver. It is also and area with considerable potential for growth. An LRT (or subway, or skytrain, or whatever) line would reduce travel times and make area along the route more livable. ============================================================================ e-mail: holland@astro.ubc.ca http://www.astro.ubc.ca/~holland/holland.html "Freedom" is not just another word for doing what the U.S. lets you do. ============================================================================
