   You don't have to buy your ticket on the ferry.  You can get one at the
bus station downtown (in either Vancouver or Victoria), and get direct
service from downtown to downtown.  This is why there are so few seats left
if you try to buy one on the ferry--most people have already bought theirs. 
I agree with you about the cost, though.
