The "us" means all those people that aren't happy with having their lives run by unions. And the threat is that we won't just "live with it". Why shouldn't we stand up for what we believe in? The threat is a reality. Think about - if you don't care about the people you are putting out work then what makes you think others will care if you lose your job - I certainly wouldn't be losing any sleep over it. >It would be wise of you to remember that unions are a reality. Threats won't lead to any kind of understanding. >cheers Yes unions are a reality. But most labour unions bear little resemblance to their forebearers. Unions were first implemented at a time when workers could barely subsist on their wages. Back then there was no minimum wage, Canada pension plan, or universal health care. But now unions, with their virtual monopoly on labour, try to ask for a lot more than a fair wage, without regards for the people they might affect outside of their union. Ousting the hot dog vendors from campus is not about protecting yourselves from unfair wages - it's about trying to maintain your monopoly on campus, and only the slimest of chances of increasing your numbers by having unionized hot dog vendors. Is that really worth pissing off thousands of students, and putting a few more people out of a job?
