     Well, well, well.  So the UBC Alumni Association is going
to be the other partner, with the AMS (the student society) in
judging the suitability of student papers?

     Well, I just called the Alumni Association and they said
they didn't know anything about it.

     It seems the AMS has acted single-handedly in formulating
this idea.

     As a UBC alumnus, I feel very strongly that _The Ubyssey_
should be kept as what it was: a newspaper of, by, and for the
current students of UBC.  I don't feel that the Alumni
Association should be involved, and I don't feel that the AMS
executive (which is elected by a far smaller percentage of the
students than those who read the paper) should exert control
over the editorial content of _The Ubyssey_.

     Even if the AMS executive had a reasonable mandate from the
student body, there would be no reason for it to seize this
power of censorship.

     Dragging the Alumni Association into it seems to be
just a feint.  I for one have let Deborah Apps of the Alumni
Association know what I think of this, and I will continue to
be in contact with the Alumni Association on it.
