If the buses were to leave ONE AT A >TIME, and load at the FRONT of the bay, we wouldn't have this >crowd/confusion problem. As for Martin's comment, massive crowds all >waiting for a bus don't constitute 'personal' transit service. The physical constraints imposed by the UBC loop as well as limitations with the mix of diesel and trolley equipment preclude the assignment of one bay to each bus line. This necessitates lumping the rush hour only service into one bay. To minimize waiting time, given the above constraints, the buses load simultaneously. If they loaded singlely, at the front of the bay, it would take about 20 minutes to get everyone going. Admittedly, it is a bit confusing, everyone trying to get on their bus home at once but it's the most accomodating solution. Everyone here (so far anyway) is advocating changing the bus schedule. How about we back up a bit. UBC could stagger class times. Some classes out at 3:00, some at 3:10, 3:20. Of course this would necessitate staggered starting times. Some students would have difficulty coordinating classes...you see what I'm getting at? One relatively minor change seems a simple solution. The reality is the domino effect it has on all related items up and down the line.
