The UBC Amateur Radio Club has made arrangements to establish radio communications with students at the Amateur Radio station at Qing Hua University in Beijing every Tuesday afternoon at about 5:30 pm, Vancouver time. Qing Hua University has been described as China's MIT. The UBC ARC (VE7UBC) ran a similar series of scheduled communications with Qing Hua University about four years ago... Such activities were cancelled by the Government of China in the wake of the events at Tiananmen Square on June 6, 1989 and are only now beginning to resume. Anyone interested in talking with university students in China via Amateur Radio (including students from the PRC who wish to talk to friends and relatives from the Beijing area) is invited to attend. For more information, please contact the club at 822-2325 or send E-mail to niallp@ee.ubc.ca. The UBC Amateur Radio Club is located in Brock Hall Annex in Room 358. Just look for the 20-metre tower (!) with the *huge* antennas!
