Need help to choose an ISP

I'm looking for an Internet service provider for a usual dial-up
connection from home (in Vancouver area).

I need "full Internet connection" (personal Web page not necessary)
with at least 40-50 hours/month online,
opportunity to use any browser (not to be stalled with one supplied
by the ISP) and to use telnet.

Can anybody recommend me a reliable provider with reasonable prices
and low "busy answers" rate?

Please send answers to the email below.

A conclusion is simply the place where you got tired of thinking.

Luckily for you, this is a permanent discussion topic on
van.general. Any old-timers care to speculate on when it first started?
I personally can't recall not seeing an ISP thread/flamewar _every_ time
I read this newsgroup.

I don't actually have that much to say. I might note that in my
experience, Infomatch sometimes does not connect well to BC*Net, but
OTOH, it has really good connectivity times by modem, a product partly of
the policy which encourages non-peak use, but mostly the installation of
a 5-minute e-mail intended line, which separates out those who just want
to POP their mail, and those who need interactivity.

This is a supremely good idea.

The March edition of the Vancouver paper had a chart on ISPs; it
might be on their Web page. Certain places in Vancouver (small computer
stores, out of the way corners, etc) might still have the paper copy.
It's doubtful you'll find one too easily by now, though.

FWIW (for what it's worth), I'm leery of going with a fly-by-night
new new new startup, given the cutthroat and volatile market, but YMMV
(your milage may vary)

I get spoiled at work with T1 speed. At home I use dowco.
All info in free starter kits at PC Galore near 4th and Macdonald in
Kits. Software and free one week access. Installation guide and
Netscape booklet. Flat unlimited rate - $19.95/mo or $29.95/mo with
web page. One time set-up fees - $19.95 (+ $50.00 for web page) I
chose the $19.95 rate. Only one minor gripe - around
3900 newsgroups. Most alt binaries carried. The ones cut are the
regional ones. Will add if you request any. I am going to do a free
web page at

Phone - 937-5505 Fax - 937-7610 Help - 937-5536 (Coquitlam phones numbers)
WWW - http://www.dowco.co

Listen to "The Internet and Computers Made Easy Show" on AM1040
sponsored by dowco.com. Saturdays 11:00am - Noon. Phone calls
taken.

I am using Infoserve as my isp. I am quite happy with
their service. They have several planes from which to choose.
Their rates are very good. Call their BBs at 454 1211 for more
