This may be naive or futile (or both), but here goes: I am a computer programmer at UCSD, and I play music as a hobby. I've been in a few 'professional' bands, but never made very much money. I always spent what little I did make on recordings. Although I make a good salary here, I am raising a daughter (3 yrs old) and supporting my wife through law school, so I don't have any savings account. I have recently moved to a rental with a nice big garage, and I moved my music stuff into it. I hope to have friends come over and play, record, work out songs, whatever. Having said all that, what I'm after is a piano. I saw one at a Goodwill up in San Francisco for $250, and it was in good shape. I really can't afford to spend much, if any money. Does anyone have an piano they could 'donate' or 'sell cheap'? It would get played by lots of asipiring musicians, and would be much loved and taken care of by myself. Because I can't afford to fix it up, I do care that it sounds OK, doesn't have any (too many?) keys that don't work, isn't missing strings, etc. Of course, I will tune whatever I get if necessary, so out-of-tune is no big deal. And ugly is fine, so long as she plays! Thanks ahead of time. Please email me (mbreen@ucsd.edu) if you can help out. Michael Breen singing and philosophizing (and rapidly forgetting what little piano I know)
