We operate Netware 3.11 and Netware for Mac 3.011.  Our Macs are
SE30's and Plus's.  All use System 7.0.1.  Access to the server is
fine using the clear text Apple Standard UAM, but not if the encrypted
Netware UAM is installed, as instructed in the Novell instruction
manual, in a folder called the "Appleshare folder".  SE30s work fine,
but the following problem occurs on the Plus's.

Initial login using the Netware UAM goes fine, but a second entry (eg
to mount an additional server volume) causes a chooser address error
requiring restart.  This was a documented bug with an available fix
from Novell (which we have) for Appleshare 2.0.2 (System 6, versions
6.0.5 onwards).  However, System 7.0.1 uses Appleshare 3.0 and the fix
refuses to patch it.

The initial comment from Novell, via our dealer, was that the problem
was fixed in System 7.0.  It isn't.  The next comment from Novell was
that it is fixed in System 7.1 (Appleshare 3.2?).  So we got from
Apple a System 7.1 installation set for a Mac Plus and installed it.
The problem's worse now!  If the Netware UAM is there at all, the Mac
bombs when you try to login - you don't even get the chance to pick
which UAM you want.

In response to that, Apple UK have said that we shouldn't run System
7.x on Plus's, only System 6.0.5 to 6.0.7 with Appleshare 2.0.2 which
there is the Novell fix for.  In which case why did they send us a 7.1
installation set for the Plus?  No answer.

I know that Mac Plus's are a bit old, but there are plenty of them
around running System 7.  Are Apple really trying to penalise those of
us foolish enough to buy Netware instead of Appleshare by limiting
Netware users to old System versions?  Or is someone telling me a load
of ...?
