                       SAVE PEDAL EXPRESS !!!!

Pedal Express is a locally-owned business which has made international
news. It's the first human-powered cargo delivery service in this
country. It currently handles a significant volume of the local mail
and packages for the City of Berkeley. Personally I feel that our
city has been greatly enriched by the presence of Pedal Express over
the past five years.

Unfortunately, Pedal Express is in jeopardy of losing its long-term
contract with the City because of a bureacratic SNAFU. There is
actually a proposal on the agenda of tomorrow (Tuesday, April 20th)
night's City Council meeting to * BUY * A CAR * to do this job,
in violation of their standing policies on pollution abatement
and global warming. This has arisen because the City Manager
says he can't think of anytyhing better for an extra employee to do.
(I can think of PLENTY of better things for him to do!).

PLEASE:

     a) CALL MAYOR SHIRLEY DEAN, 644-6484 (510)

     b) Send a one-click email at

                http://www.preservenet.com/EcoCity/

     c) Come to Berkeley City Council tomorrow (Tuesday) at 7PM
City Council meets at Alston and MLK in downtown Berkeley
at Old City Hall. Yes it's up *again* !!!

And if you can put flyers on bikes, that'd be great too.
Please page me at (510) 720-2818 to help out.

P.S. You can also find one-click emails about HOUSING at that
     web site. Please visit:

                http://www.preservenet.com/EcoCity/

P.P.S. I am not compensated in any way for doing this, I just
don't want our city to take a big step backwards.
