Corte, campo y capilla series
Conjunto Nuevo Mundo and members of Coro Hispano celebrate the mix of
cultures in the Amricas with a multi-colored garland of song for voices
and instruments in many languages. From the courts of Renaissance Spain,
epic ballads and love-songs; from the choir-stalls of Toledo, Victoria's
Misa Ave Maris Stella; from early California missions, new settings of
old melodies; from the very dawn of the Hispanic presence in Mesoamerica
polyphonic votive chants in indigenous tongues, accompanied by huehuetl
and teponaztli; and from contemporary South America, choral dances that
sing of carnaval to the sound of charango, quenas and drums.
Join us on Saturday, October 4, 1997 at 8pm at St. Joseph the Worker
Church on Addison St. (near California) in Berkeley for a historic
concert filled with the sounds of el campo and the moving music of its
children.
Coro Hispano de San Francisco and Conjunto Nuevo Mundo are a Latino
performing ensemble whose concerts are produced and presented by
Instituto Pro Musica de California, a non-profit arts organization
dedicated to a single but multi-faceted ideal: researching, promoting,
and performing the music repertoires of the Iberian and Iberoamerican
peoples.
Ticket prices:
$10 general, $8 seniors and students, children 16 and under free
presented by IPMC and hosted by Saint Joseph the Worker Church
- general seating; doors open at 7:30pm
