It's a Logitech "TrackMan" thumb-driven trackball (serial). This is the old mechanical kind, not one of the new optical ones they sell. This means it requires regular cleaning. It was starting to work a little poorly even before I broke it (by springing a spring) while trying to clean some of the more difficult to reach mechanical parts. I bet with a little patience it could be made to work quite well however. Free to anyone willing to pick it up (near Emeryville or at UCB). Robert
